Exploring and experimenting with different media to donate an art piece for an auction to raise funds for the Dragons Abreast Mackay group of ladies. Not sure if I want to go down the same track as I did last time which involved decorating a bra – even though it raised quite a lot of funds.
Now thinking along sculptural lines  …  mmmm. The auction is in March. -

I will be welcoming home a flock of “black cockatoos” from Mount Colosseum where they were a popular installation along the Art Trail as part of the Wrapt in Mugul project. The sound sensor featuring black cockatoo calls delighted the visitors along the trail and complimented the installation perfectly.
Project manager, Lee McIvor, has extended the timeframe of the display due to its popularity.

So thrilled to be awarded the top prize in Artists & Art 2021. Best In Show was Moonlight Mangroves. Lauren from Artspace was the judge and someone whose opinion I respect. Also Moonlight Mangroves was awarded Highly Commended at the recent Art on Show Awards. Bit overwhelmed to be also selected as the winner of the Small Paintings prize and 2nd in Contemporary Abstract.
Check out the exhibition at Mackay Visual Art Society Visual Art Centre, Snow Wright Court, Beaconsfield between the hours of 10am and 4pm each day until Sunday 17th October.

What a great day out last month at Pinnacle Playhouse when budding artists took to their canvasses with gusto to experiment with new bold and exciting methods. As facilitator I shared my skills and new approaches to painting the local birdlife and the picturesque landscape. Artists from the Pioneer Valley and Mackay region attended, and because everyone was driving, there was more painting than sipping, resulting in some potential masterpieces. Thanks to all my helpers as the day was a great success.

Planning for my installation near Mt Colosseum (near Miriam Vale). Red Tail Black cockatoos have been used as weather forecasters forever, particularly for farmers and indigenous communities. Different versions say that the number of Red Tail Black cockies in a flock indicates the number of days before rain, or alternatively, the number of days of rain. Their loud raucous call is attention getting. I completed the birds using wire mesh and the bird call sound/sensor which activated when people approached the installation. Several artists were involved in “Wrapt in Mugul” and an official bus trip was organised for the opening, so that all the ephemeral artists sites could be included on 10th July. Still working out on how to resize the very large file.

What a fun time I had at the Walter Reid Centre last week when I participated in a workshop with Jo Williams. Great to catch up with all the Rocky girls from CQ Contemporary Arts.

Just revisiting this you-beaut drawing from last year and it evokes such nostalgic thoughts of lazy days relaxing under the palms at Basil Bay.

So thrilled that my artwork “On Parade” which was part of the 2020 Sugartime Festival exhibition held in August was snapped up by a former Mackay Chevrons Marching Girls Team Leader. It is now on display together with her numerous medals, trophies, awards and citations won at national and regional Marching Girl championships. The Sugartime Festival was a tribute to the Mackay Tourist Festivals of the 1950’s and 1960’s.

“Coral Passage Keswick Island” is my view of the beautiful Cumberland Island group and was my entry in the RESTART MACKAY project sponsored by a group of Mackay businesses. Due to the pandemic and the cancellation of the Art on Show, the exhibition was displayed in the Woollam Constructions building in Sydney Street.
