I lived and worked for many years in the beef industry, on my family’s cattle station in the Brigalow country of Central Queensland. During the cold winters I developed a close affinity with wool, not only for the warmth of our blankets, but also its endurance and quality as demonstrated in the long-lasting strength of the saddle cloths (blankets) we used on our stock horses.
There the beginnings of a creative life unfolded, with spare time spent learning to knit and sew, creating knitted woollen sweaters and sewing work clothes for the family.
I developed an interest in, and taught myself, the techniques of spinning, weaving and dyeing while raising my children on the same cattle station, and I taught them the same skills I learned as a young child.
Now living in a semi rural area near Mackay in Queensland, I have maintained a studio for more than 20 years weaving tapestries, rugs and saddle blankets for sale and for commission.
I hand spin and dye all the (primarily wool) yarns I use in my work. The dyes are from nature, I use bugs, roots, leaves and flowers both purchased and from hunting and gathering.
